VISION
OF A COLLECTOR
Washington, DC |
|
The exhibition “Vision
of a Collector: The Lessing J. Rosenwald Collection,” was
installed in Madison Memorial Hall at the Library of Congress. The
architecture of the Hall, with its formal arrangement of columns,
suggested a case design and placement with a similar formal character.
The nature and demands of this space precluded a fixed linear circulation
path. We developed a design concept that allowed each of the one
hundred illustrated books to stand on its own as a beautiful object,
identified and placed in context through its freestanding label,
enabling the visitor to explore the exhibition stopping at random
yet still retaining a sense of the overall themes. The visual richness
of the books on display was reinforced by the colors and materials
of the custom designed cases that protected and presented them. |
