In designing “Louis
XIV and the New World,” our participation in the project
began early in the process. Working directly with the curator,
we assisted in content organization and arrangement of over 250
artifacts in thematic categories and integration of these themes
into an extremely difficult exhibition space. The space itself
required HVAC upgrading to bring it closer to conservation standards
of temperature and humidity and interior architectural alterations
to establish a linear visitor circulation path and to help create
the thematic areas. As the artifacts had been lent with stringent
conservation guidelines, we designed a series of high-security
micro-climate cases. In the design of the cases and other components,
in the molding profiles designed specifically for this collection,
and in the fabrics and colors, our intention was to create a rich,
visually saturated effect reminiscent of Versailles.
